Dear IEEE Indonesia Section Life Senior Member, Life Member, Senior Member, Affiliate Member, Associate Member, Member, Graduate Student Member, and Student Member,

During our 28-year history as an Indonesia professional organization, we have experienced and successfully navigated through several periods of time that technological progress is a considerable driving force behind economic growth, citizen engagement and job creation of the country.

Information and communication technologies, in particular, are reshaping many aspects of the world’s economies, governments and societies. As a part of the global knowledge societies, IEEE Indonesia Section takes its active roles to public officials, businesses and citizens, to work together to harness the transformative power of ICTs to make services more efficient, catalyze economic development and strengthen social networks.

IEEE is one of the largest professional associations in the world. Having been founded over 130 years ago, nowadays it brings together over 430,000 active members in more than 160 countries. This is the world’s largest technical professional society, dedicated to fostering technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. IEEE provides more than 3.5 million digital libraries and currently has organized about 1,300 annual conferences, worldwide.

We may aware that year 2015 is our growth year, as we have achieved several global achievements, such as 1,576 total member with 30,8% growth rate, that made IEEE Indonesia Section is eligible to become Large Section. IEEE Indonesia has also been awarded 2015 outstanding Section membership recruitment performance from IEEE Headquarter. Other achievements such as 12 new SB formation, 7 new SB chapters and WIE AG formation, 8 new Chapters formation (1 approved and 7 in approval process), 32 annual International conferences indexed by IEEE Xplore, number #4 worldwide Member get Member activities, third winner of IEEE Student, Young Professional, and Women in Engineering Region 10 Asia Pacific Congress 2015-by SB TelU.

Moreover, in year 2015, we also successfully bid several International flag ship IEEE conferences, such as TENSYMP 2016, APCC 2016, WPMC 2017 and GlobeCom 2020, to be hosted in Indonesia.

Although we are not in the immune situation from the global economic difficulties and uncertainty that affected Indonesia, my level of confidence in our organization and all of you as our proudly members has never been greater.

As an organization, IEEE Indonesia Section has weathered many different types of storms. However, our organization image has never been stronger or even more relevant. Our pipeline of organizational activities and breakthrough of technological innovation has never been more robust. And our long term commitment to delivering an elevated and highest contribution to Indonesian people is unwavering.

We are continuing to develop strategic alliances with universities, including universities outside Java island, government, and other ICT organizations. Strategic planning of IEEE activities Technical Activities, Education Activity, Industry Relation, Professional Activity, Conference Coordination, Membership Development, Student Activity and Women in Engineering. We also continue aligning and strengthening our active contribution in Research, Innovation and Public policy, related to technology.

Hence, we expect that IEEE Indonesia, aside from being an ordinary professional society, also would elevate its vital role for strategic national positioning toward an IEEE as one of the national assets.

We are in the midst of continuing organization development progress, enhancing national visibility of IEEE Indonesia Section, combining our unique position in Indonesia professional communities and we are continuing making profound social impact in the communities that we serve around Indonesia, and will continue to do so today and into the future.

Four university students who are members of IEEE Student Branch Tel-U Asia Pacific gained ranks at the event “IEEE Student, Young Professionals, and Women in Engineering Region 10 Asia Pacific Congress 2015” held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, 9 – July 12, 2015.

The fourth student is Amanda Julia Isa and Muhammad Fadhil (Telecommunication Engineering Program), Qhansa Di’Ayu Putri Bayu (Informatics Engineering Program), and Muhammad Ibnu Muharrom (Telecommunication Business Management Studies and Information). “Telkom University IEEE Student Branch is one – the only student branch representing Indonesia in this Congress,” said Amanda.According to Amanda, Congress Region is an event that held once in two years started on 2002 in Singapore. “This congress aims to expand Networking, Skill Enhancement, Technology Breakthroughs, Women in Engineering, Economic and Social Aspects,” he said.

At IEEE Region 10 Congress 2015, said Amanda, not less than 250 delegates came from 28 countries in Asia Pacific including Australia, India, Malaysia, Japan, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and of course Indonesia.

Amanda added, there are 31 people who volunteered to go to Sri Lanka. But after going through a fairly rigorous selection process, the team IEEE Tel-U finally elected to represent to Sri Lanka with funding from the Higher Education, Indonesia Section, and the Tel-U.

“Before leaving, we had to prepare for some things such as video introductions Indonesia for IEEE Congress, the poster for IEEE Student Branch Poster Competition, Souvenir, Performance for the cultural night,” he said.

On July 1, 2015, said Amanda, IEEE R10 SAC Team told them that the IEEE Student Branch Telkom University selected for the “Representation Competition” in IEEE Region 10 Student / YP / WIE. Thereafter, on July 6, 2015 they were informed by the committee, that the IEEE SB Tel-U into the top 20 in Asia Pacific. “And we are required to represent Student Branch IEEE us directly at the Congress R10 on 9-12 July 2015,” he said.

Their hard work resulted sweet. After presenting the development of student branch in Indonesia, the jury decided to Amanda and her friends was selected as the top three Asia Pacific under Bangladesh and Malaysia.

Thank you to all those who have supported our departure so that we can achieve more on the event and student congress this competition, “he said.
