The International Webinar Kartini Day’s: Women’s Movement for Humanitarian Technology was successfully conducted as an online event organized through the collaboration between IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Indonesia and AI-MRC. The event aimed to commemorate Kartini Day by highlighting the strategic role of women in advancing technology for humanitarian purposes.
The event began with an opening session and remarks delivered by the organizing committee, represented by Dr. Andrea Ningsih, who emphasized that the webinar serves as a meaningful momentum to continue Kartini’s spirit in promoting education, equality, and women’s empowerment in the digital era. The event was attended by participants from 39 universities as well as professionals from various sectors, reflecting strong cross-sector collaboration in supporting inclusive technological development .
The session continued with a speech from Dr. Reza Yuridian Purwoko, representing AI-MRC, who highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in advancing research and innovation, particularly through artificial intelligence and technology-driven solutions. He emphasized that women’s involvement in technology is not only about representation, but also about bringing inclusive perspectives that make technology more humane and impactful.
An opening speech was also delivered by Dr. Dewi Y. Liliana, Chair of IEEE Women in Engineering Indonesia, who officially opened the webinar and expressed appreciation for the collaboration between organizations. She emphasized the importance of preparing women in STEM to take active roles in global technological development and encouraged participants to actively engage in IEEE initiatives.

The main session featured five distinguished women leaders and professors in STEM, namely Prof. Riri Fitri Sari, Prof. Linawati, Prof. Diana Purwitasari, Prof. Ernawati Sinaga, and Prof. Dwiza Riana. Each speaker shared insights, experiences, and perspectives on the role of women in advancing technology, research, and innovation, particularly in addressing humanitarian challenges. The discussion highlighted the importance of leadership, collaboration, and continuous learning in empowering women to contribute significantly in both academic and professional fields.
Overall, the webinar successfully provided valuable insights into the role of women in technology and strengthened awareness of the importance of inclusive innovation. The event also encouraged participants to actively contribute to humanitarian technology initiatives and foster collaboration across disciplines and institutions.
