IEEE Indonesia Section (IEEE IS) has been working together with the Digital Entrepreneurship Academy (DEA) of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) to collaborate and support the organization of digital training for 1500 Small and Middle Enterprises (SMEs) throughout Indonesia during 2021-2022 period. This collaboration was fully supported by the head of Kominfo Research and Development Agency (Balitbang) Dr. Eng. Hary Budiarto, Dr. Ing. Wahyudi Hasbi (IEEE Indonesia Section Chair), Prof. Gamantyo Hendrantoro (IEEE Indonesia Section Vice Chair), Dr. Denny Setiawan (Government Relations Chair), Dr. Agnes Irwanti (Industry Relations Chair), and the Advisory Board Members.

Dr. Riza Azmi (Head of Digital Entrepreneur Academy) stated that collaboration with IEEE IS and various parties would accelerate the realization of DEA activity goals. To support women SMEs, a webinar was held on April 21, 2022, which coincided with the Kartini Day celebration and Girl in Tech International Telecommunication Union (ITU) International Day. Kartini Day honors Raden Ajeng Kartini, a patriotic figure who pioneered the movement for women’s equality in Indonesia. Not only that, the special day is also appreciating Indonesian women who have dedicated their thoughts and actions to the emancipation of women in various fields. This is particularly a very special occasion as it is aligned with with the objective of the webinar to promote the role of women in the ICT sector.

The theme of this webinar was “Women in Digital Entrepreneurship (WiDE): Recover Together with Digital Entrepreneurship”. The Webinar was attended by the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno, Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Bintang Puspayoga, Chairperson of Commission I DPR RI Meutya Viada Hafid, Secretary General of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics Mira Tayyiba, and Deputy for Coordination of Child Quality Improvement of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture Femmy Kartika Eka Putri. Besides the involvement the legislative and executive ranks, the event was also attended by speakers from technology companies such as Google Indonesia, Gojek, Tokopedia, Bukalapak and AntGroup.  IEEE Young Professional Chair, Ms. Cleossa Lydwina. A.P. as the chief organizer of the seminar said that the webinar and workshop aim to improve the community’s digital skill so that increasing their proficiency in doing business using digital technology.

The WiDE activity was hosted by Dr. Ford Lumban Gaol (Computer Society Chair) and Mr. Kuncoro Wastuwibowo (R10 IR Committee Member), who led the panel discussion session with the Legislative and Executive. The discussion session featuring the Technology Companies was led by Prof. Riri Fitri Sari and Mrs. Sakinah Juliani Utami.

Digital training activities were also organized offline, where IEEE Industry Relations and IEEE Young Professionals supported as lecturers in several cities including South Tangerang, Jembrana, and Banjarbaru.

IEEE Indonesia Section committed to play a role in serving the people and government of Indonesia, in accordance with its tag line: Advancing Technology for Humanity.
